Each year MU Extension in Cooper County and the Cooper County Farm Bureau selects a local farm family as the Farm Family of the Year to represent Cooper County at the Missouri State Fair.

The annual event is sponsored by five partner agencies: the Missouri Farm Bureau, the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Missouri State Fair Commissioners, the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, and MU Extension and Engagement.

Lewis family

Kirt and Joyce Lewis and family of Otterville, MO were among the families honored during the 67th annual Missouri Farm Family Day, Aug. 12, 2024 at the Missouri State Fair. The Lewis family was selected as the Cooper County Missouri Farm Family by University of Missouri Extension in Cooper County and the local Farm Bureau. Along with Kirt and Joyce, Ryan and Kristen Hackmann (daughter and son in law) and grandchildren, Allie Hackmann and Tanner Hackmann all help on the farm as much as they can.

Imhoff family

The Danny and Deana Imhoff family of Bunceton were among the families honored during the 66th annual Missouri Farm Family Day, August 14, at the Missouri State Fair. The Imhoff family was selected as the Cooper County Missouri Farm Family by University of Missouri Extension in Cooper County and the local Farm Bureau. The family includes Gracie Imhoff and Paige Davis.

The Scott and Angie Poock family were among the families honored during the 64th annual Missouri Farm Family Day on August 15 at the Missouri State Fair. The Poock family was selected as the Cooper County Missouri Farm Family by University of Missouri Extension in Cooper County and the local Farm Bureau.

Day family

Jeff and Michelle Day and family of Pilot Grove were among the families honored during the 62nd annual Missouri Farm Family Day on August 16 at the Missouri State Fair. The Day family was selected as the 2020-2021 Cooper County Missouri Farm Family by University of Missouri Extension in Cooper County and the local Farm Bureau. The family includes their children Adrianna, Jefferson and Jackson.

Schrader family

The Lee and Angie Schrader family of Wooldridge were among the families honored during the 61st annual Farm Family Day, Aug. 12 at the Missouri State Fair.

The Schrader family was selected as the Cooper County Farm Family by University of Missouri Extension in Cooper County and the local Farm Bureau. The family includes their daughters Rose and Mabel and Lee's father Ray. Each year, the fair sets aside a day to recognize farm families from across the state that are active in their communities, involved in agriculture, and/or participate in local outreach and extension programs such as 4-H or FFA.

This year, all 114 Missouri counties plus the City of St. Louis participated, honoring nearly 500 people from the 115 farm families.

Imhoff family

The Eric and Cindy Imhoff family of Blackwater were among the families honored during the 60th Annual Missouri Farm Family Day, August 13 at the Missouri State Fair.

The Imhoff family was selected as the Cooper County’s Farm Family by the Cooper County Extension Council and local Farm Bureau. The family includes their children Haley and Clayton.

Each year, the fair sets aside a day to recognize farm families from across the state who are active in their communities, involved in agriculture and/or who participate in local outreach and extension programs such as 4-H or FFA. In the urban areas we recognize greenhouse operations, mum pumpkin farms that are a part of Ag Tourism, and Urban gardening that offsets food deserts.

The annual event is a partnership of Missouri Farm Bureau, the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Missouri State Fair and Commissioners, the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, and University of Missouri Extension and Engagement.

All 114 of Missouri’s counties nominated families this year, plus the City of St. Louis, with nearly 500 family members being honored from across the state.
