Ozark Prairie Master Gardeners
The Ozark Prairie Master Gardeners chapter was established in 2002. The Master Gardener program is an opportunity for novice and experienced gardeners to learn to share knowledge with others. As representatives of MU Extension, Master Gardeners are involved in a variety of activities that benefit community, families and individuals while developing horticultural interests.
The MU Extension Missouri Master Gardener Program is a statewide education and volunteer program. To become a Master Gardener, participants must complete the 30-hour core training course presented by MU Extension horticulture faculty and complete a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer service in their community in approved MU Extension Master Gardener activities.
The Ozark Prairie Master Gardener Chapter is a proud member of the Missouri Master Gardener Association Inc.
About us
The Ozark Prairie Master Gardeners are trained individuals who enjoy learning and sharing their expertise with others. Our gardening backgrounds range from hobbyist to professional, from beginner to experienced, from young adult to senior citizen. The common bond is a love of gardening, learning and sharing.
Ozark Prairie Master Gardeners are involved in a diverse collection of community projects and one-on-one consultations such as
- Community vegetable garden
- School fall gardening classes
- Judging Lawn of the month
- Spring Plant Sale
- County Fair floral judging
- Cabbage patch contest
- Children’s garden
- Speaker’s program featuring a wide variety of gardening topics
- Adult education program, From Dirt to the Dinner Table
- Garden problem solving program for the community
- Club informational booth
- One-on-one private gardening advising and demonstrations
- Monthly educational programs
After training, Master Gardeners serve as a resource with University of Missouri Extension to give county residents research-based answers to their gardening questions. The primary purpose of a Master Gardener is to volunteer, but members rate camaraderie and learning opportunities as important reasons for participating.
To become a Master Gardener, call 573-378-5358 for details on upcoming training.
