Stay Strong, Stay Healthy

A strength training class for older adults. Participants participate in twice weekly exercise sessions for 8 weeks building muscle and strength through the completion of 8 basic exercises. There is an advanced version for groups who have completed and mastered the original Stay Strong, Stay Healthy exercises.

Food Preservation

The University of Missouri Extension is committed to using the latest research-based guidelines to give consumers the tools they need to safely succeed when preserving food at home. We offer a self-paced online course, fact sheets and answers to consumer questions on canning, freezing, dehydrating and storing food products for long term storage. The self-paced course covers pressure canning, boiling water bath canning, steam canning, dehydration, and freezing and is designed to serve as a resource to anyone interested in home food preservation techniques.

Cooking Matters®

Recognized by the USDA as a top nutrition education program, Cooking Matters courses teach participants how to develop smart shopping strategies and healthy cooking skills to help prepare nutritious, low-cost meals and snacks at home. With 13 flexible lessons focused on different topics, Cooking Matters engages individuals in hands-on nutrition and culinary activities. Though all of our hands-on Cooking Matters programs offer nutrition information, handouts and recipes you can cook on a modest budget, we can also tailor our courses to different ages and groups.

Dietary Guidelines

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2020-2025 provides advice on what to eat and drink to meet nutrient needs, promote health, and help prevent chronic disease. This edition of the Dietary Guidelines is the first to provide guidance for healthy dietary patterns by life stage, from birth through older adulthood, including women who are pregnant or lactating.
