University of Missouri Extension - Urban West 4-H mission is to engage youth, families, and adult volunteers of all ages through clubs, camps, contests, conferences, special interest groups, in-school and afterschool programs, and more. It’s about young people making new friends and memories while preparing to be future leaders — from both rural and urban areas.

Community Clubs
Community clubs are an amazing opportunity for students, families, and volunteers to engage in project-based learning. Students complete projects in agriculture, STEM, fashion, cooking, woodworking, and more. We have vibrant community clubs in Platte, Jackson, and Clay County. In-School and After-School clubs
Shachunda Hampton
Shachunda loves entrepreneurship, STEM, and of course kids! She has a background in education and small business ownership that she uses to inspire and motivate our youth. She has been vital in expanding grants to include schools and youth that are underrepresented in 4-H . Currently, she is programming at several schools including Van Horn High School.
Liliana Sanchez
Liliana loves hydroponics, entomology, and all the kids! She was in 4-H in the Urban West as a youth and is carrying on the legacy everyday as she works with the same children. Her unique experience and knowledge allow her to reach students on a deep and personal level. She is programming at several schools including Clifford H Nowlin Middle School.
Justin Strickland
Justin Strickland is a passionate educator committed to youth development in the Urban West. For over a decade he has been a part of impacting youth all over the world. He brings that experience and knowledge to the Urban West to help youth here find success. His Master of Leadership from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is in full use as He attempts to teach the next generation of leaders.

Embryology
Embryology is one of our favorite programs! We get the opportunity to deliver hundreds of chicks to students throughout the Urban West. This program helps our students learn about the life cycle of chicks and how to take care of them. They get a chance to name them and connect with them!
