COURSE LENGTH AND SCHEDULE

The 2025 EMS refresher course is a self-paced online course.  Participant must complete the course requirements by March 15, 2025, at 23:59.  No assignments completed after the course’s deadline will be accepted for credit.  Participants must complete each lesson in its entirety, receive at least 70% on exams, and complete evaluations assigned to the lessons and module.

ASSESSMENTS AND GRADING

Assessments may include online classroom interaction, instructor evaluations, formative and summative assessments, video quizzes, simulations, and discussion posts.  Each lesson will have an associated exam.  Exams will be multiple choice and have standard points awarded for each question.  Participants will have 2 attempts for each exam for successful completion.  You must achieve at least 70% to pass each quiz and lesson.  If participants are unsuccessful within the 2 attempts participants will not be awarded the CEU’s for that section.  Lessons with associated discussions or other non-multiple-choice exams shall include the grading rubric within the module and/or lesson overview.   No late assignments will be accepted.

VIDEOS & DISCUSSIONS

Learner-to-learner interaction is highly encouraged in this refresher course.  Discussions will allow you and your fellow students to interact in the online environment.  During a discussion, you will be asked a question or required to watch a video.  You will then need to respond with a post.  After you post your response, you are required to post discussion points on at least 2 of your fellow student's posts.  As a reminder, please use appropriate netiquette.  Offensive responses will be removed, and you will be un-enrolled from the course.  A completion grade will be awarded for your posts.

NETIQUETTE

Our discussion forums and course communications are important venues for exchanging ideas and promoting learning. Your instructor and fellow participants wish to foster a safe online learning environment. All opinions and experiences, no matter how different or controversial they may be perceived, must be respected in the tolerant spirit of academic discourse. Constructive criticism and questions are encouraged; however, you will be expected to remain professional and courteous in all your posts. You are encouraged to comment, question, or critique an idea, but you are not to attack an individual.

Our differences, some of which are outlined in the University of Missouri's nondiscrimination statement, will add richness to this learning experience. Please consider that sarcasm and humor can be misconstrued in online interactions and generate unintended disruptions. Working as a community of learners, we can build a polite and respectful course atmosphere. As your instructor, I reserve the right to delete any forum posts or blog entries I deem to be inappropriate for the course.
