Description
This online training will equip law enforcement officers to identify and manage stress, recognize mental health issues and use effective communication to defuse tense situations, leading to safer outcomes for both law enforcement and the community.
Syllabus
This twelve hour online course is designed for law enforcement officers to present materials and information for de-escalation in use of force situations. It has four modules including: Constitutional Law, Missouri Statutory Law, Crisis Negotiations and Introduction to Integrating Communication, Assessment and Tactics (ICAT). Each module was created to give law enforcement more tools for incidents involving potential use of force. This twelve hour online portion will establish the basis for an additional twelve hour in person portion to be launched in the Spring of 2025. The twelve hour in-person portion of this training will include classroom completion of ICAT, updates/review of constitutional/statutory law and 4 hours of scenario/role play training.
This training is funded by the Missouri Department of Public Safety through the SFY 2024 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) Use of Force Training Grant (UOFTG).
