Stay Safe on the Road: Join the Keep Your Keys Program

Are you 55 or older? A caregiver? Or a facilitator like a health educator, policy maker, or nurse?

The Keep Your Keys program is designed just for you! It's a driver-safety course offered by the University of Missouri Extension and University of Missouri Health Care's Injury Prevention and Outreach Program. We provide vital resources for older adults and caregivers to help maintain safe driving habits or navigate the transition to driving retirement.

Why is this important?

As we age, several factors can impact our driving abilities:

• Decreased Flexibility and Strength

• Decline in Vision and/or Hearing

• Cognitive Changes

• Medication Interactions

Self-Assess Your Driving Skills Regularly

To ensure safety for yourself and others on the road, it's crucial to regularly evaluate your driving abilities. Ask yourself:

• Am I struggling to keep up with traffic?

• Do I frequently get lost or forget my destination?

• Do I feel unusually tired while driving?

• Have I been in an accident in the past year?

• Have others voiced concerns about my driving?

Plan for the Future

Whether you gradually transition out of driving or it happens unexpectedly, having a transportation plan is essential. Stay active, social, and engaged even without driving.
