OSCEOLA, Mo. – February is Lamb Lovers Month, as designated by the American Lamb Board. In recognition of this, University of Missouri Extension in St. Clair County will host the American Lamb Consumer and Producer Workshop 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Osceola.

The event aims to foster connections between producers and consumers, said David Brown, MU Extension sheep and goats specialist.

“The primary purpose of the workshop is to educate consumers about the nutritional benefits and versatility of American lamb, connect potential consumers with local producers and strengthen the local market,” Brown said. “The event also aims to inspire youth by highlighting the value of American lamb, encouraging future interest and engagement in this vital industry. With generous support from St. Clair County State Bank, scholarships will cover the cost for 20 FFA and 4-H students to attend this year’s event.”

Topics and presenters include:

  • “Breaking Myths About American Lamb.” David Brown, MU Extension sheep and goats specialist.
  • “Running an Efficient Sheep Enterprise.” Dan Quadros, assistant professor and small ruminant specialist, University of Arkansas.
  • “Nutritional Benefits of American Lamb.” Lynnlee Parrott, MU Extension nutrition and health field specialist.
  • “The Power of Storytelling in Marketing Grass-Fed Lamb.” Elisabeth Fostich, Fostich Farms, Edwards, Mo.

The workshop will be held at First Baptist Church, 555 Walnut St., Osceola. The cost is $10 per adult, which includes a lamb burger dinner, free American Lamb recipe booklets and educational materials. Scholarships are available for the first 20 FFA/4-H members to register.
