WEST PLAINS, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension and the Scenic Rivers Invasive Species Partnership will hold a free “Invasive Plants 101” workshop 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, at the Howell County MU Extension center in West Plains on how to identify and treat common invasive plants.
Sarah Higgins, MU Extension field specialist in natural resources, said there will be a field trip to tour a property where invasive plants are being managed. There also will be a session on pesticide application and safety with a live demonstration from invasive species biologist Valarie Kurre, weather permitting.
Staff from Quail Forever, the Missouri Department of Conservation and MU Extension will lead the tour and answer questions about land management. Higgins and Kurre advise those attending to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes and to bring sunscreen, insect repellent and drinking water. This workshop will proceed rain or shine.
The event is free, and Heart of the Ozarks chapter of Quail Forever will provide lunch.
