COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension offers a webinar series on growing summer vegetables 6-8 p.m. on April 8, 10, 15 and 17 to help small farmers grow warm-season crops.
MU Extension specialists will offer detailed information to produce warm-season crops such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, melons, summer and winter squash, sweet corn, beans and peas, says Justin Keay, MU Extension field specialist in horticulture.
“Summer vegetable crops such as tomatoes, sweet corn and squash are always in high demand at farmers markets, roadside stands and produce auctions,” says Keay. “This series will provide growers with detailed production information to help maximize their success with summer crops.”
The final session will include a farmer discussion panel along with a demonstration of how growers can use MU Extension’s crop enterprise budgets to help evaluate profitability. Attendees will also learn about small-farm loan programs from the USDA Farm Service Agency.
The course is designed for current or aspiring vegetable farmers, says Keay.
Scholarships are available for beginning farmers in St. Louis (city and county) and the counties of St. Charles, Jefferson, Lincoln Franklin, Warren, Ste. Genevieve, St. Francois and Washington.
