Professional background

I have been in university-based continuing nursing education since 1984 where I administer the University of Missouri Nursing Outreach (MUNO) program, the primary educational outreach arm of the MU Sinclair School of Nursing and the Nursing Extension unit of MU Extension/Engagement. MUNO has been accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the Midwest Multistate Division for over four decades and is currently approved through 2022. I have served as Project Director for numerous continuing education and work force-related grants and contracts from federal and state governments, totaling over $4 million. I have 15 publications related to nursing continuing education, adult education, and nursing management and 29 abstracts accepted for presentation at national conferences, all of which were continuing education related. I have also served as a reviewer for Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing and have held continual board certification through the ANCC as a CE nursing professional since it was first available in 1992.

Areas of work

Retired - I provide leadership to the University of Missouri Nursing Outreach (MUNO) program, the primary educational outreach arm of the MU Sinclair School of Nursing and the Nursing Extension unit of MU Extension/Engagement. Our outstanding team is relatively small (6.0 FTE) but highly productive. We provide educational programs to practicing professional nurses and other health care providers throughout Missouri and surrounding states. I serve as the Primary Nurse Planner on various organizing committees to plan, implement and evaluate professional development activities which award continuing education credit to mostly nurses but also social workers, nursing home administrators, pharmacists and psychologists. In FY20, over 3500 participants enrolled in educational opportunities provided by MUNO The participants came from 99 (87%) of Missouri’s 114 counties including the City of St. Louis. The large majority of individuals who benefit from nursing continuing professional development opportunities are from mostly rural and underserved areas, both medically and educationally. MUNO also served people from 27 other states and the countries of Australia and Canada, in part due to our increased emphasis in online learning.
