Poultry Day 2024
Date: June 8, 2024
Location: Animal Science Research Center - University of Missouri
Registration: This contest is open to all 4-H’ers. Registration is $25 per youth — no fee for coaches. Youth and coaches should register in 4-H Online between April 17 and May 16. Late registration ($40) runs from May 17 to May 24. No registrations will be accepted after May 24, 2024.
T-shirts (optional): must be ordered by May 1 (optional purchase in 4-H Online). T-Shirts are available only through advance ordering. You may order these with your registration. Sizes available are youth large, adult small, adult medium, adult large and adult XL (all $12 each), and adult 2XL-3XL (for $14 each).
Activities for the day include:
- Production Poultry Judging Contest
- The production judging contest will include egg and carcass grading, parts identification, and laying hens placing. If desired, a senior 4-H Judging Team may be identified to qualify to enter the 4-H National Competition in Louisville, KY in November.
- Educational Session (topic TBD)
- Quiz Bowl
- Age Divisions: Juniors (ages 8-13) and Seniors (ages 14-18)
- Interested youth should sign up with 4-H Poultry Day registration. Youth are encouraged to register in teams of 3-4 youth.

- Egg Demonstration Contest

- Judging Criteria:
- Each contestant prepares an egg dish and also presents information that reflects the contestant's knowledge about eggs, including: nutritional value, preparation, storage, function, grading-sizing, versatility, and economics of cooking with eggs.
- Demonstrations should not last more than 12 minutes.
- Youth should present a finished product for judges' sampling and a recipe handout for the judges.
- Other:
- Recipe must contain 1 whole egg per serving if a salad or main dish; ½ egg per serving if an appetizer, snack, dessert, or beverage.
- National contest opportunity the winner in the senior division may represent Missouri at the national contest in Louisville.
- Poultry Photo Contest
- Submit one (1) photo you took, printed to size 8x10 mounted, single photo of poultry to be judged on quality, clarity, and composition. Altering (editing to change the contents of) a photo is not permitted. Enhancing (editing to improve the existing qualities of) a photo is permitted. Examples include cropping the photo, eliminating redeye and changing levels of saturation, brightness, contrast, etc. Include name, address and county on the back of your entry.
- Dozen Egg Contest
- Enter a dozen eggs from your chickens. Select your dozen eggs to be entered as Pee Wee, Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large or Jumbo weight class. You must declare your egg size at time of entry. Eggs will be evaluated for appearance, uniformity and appropriateness of size and weight classification that you have declared, shape, color, soundness and quality (both interior and exterior).
