Gloeocercospora sorghi
Hosts
Creeping bentgrass
Disease description:
Copper spot occurs in warm, wet weather on golf putting greens, often in association with and mistaken for dollar spot outbreaks. The disease occurs in small, scattered, roughly round patches 1 to 3 inches in diameter that are salmon- or copper-colored. Although similar, copper spot can be distinguished from dollar spot by a darker spot color (dollar spot is normally more bleached) and a more diffuse appearance to spot margins.
Control
Most fungicides that control dollar spot and other diseases will also control copper spot, making its occurrence rare. When copper spot is active, limit use of water-soluble nitrogen sources and avoid mowing wet turf to decrease the spread of pathogen spores.
